This week, the children, who have been participating in a Life Skills Intervention, took part in a hands-on activity where they prepared their own tasty snack. They toasted bread, safely cut strawberries and bananas, and practised spreading jam and honey. Throughout the session, they developed key skills such as safe cutting, controlled spreading, and following simple steps to build independence. The highlight, of course, was enjoying the food they had made themselves!
To round off the session, we had a thoughtful discussion about independence in everyday life. The children shared examples of how they take responsibility at home, such as getting ready for school in the morning, organising their belongings, and helping their families.
It’s been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they take on new challenges and build essential life skills.
Next week, we’ll be building on this learning as we move on to our new focus: healthy eating and exercise—encouraging the children to make positive choices for both their bodies and minds.
